**An Extensive Guide to Rainworld Level Editing**

# Introduction

This document is meant to provide a solution to the problem faced with how little documentation is actually present in Rainworld modding. The wiki may help, but information there may not be present or just downright wrong. This document will (hopefully) better cover how modding works (such as region development) and the challenges and problems that may be faced while developing a region. 

Everything will be categorized and labeled accordingly using headers, and certain sections may be jumped to by clicking on the desired header on the left of the screen. If something in one section refers to another section, as in a wiki, that other section may be linked to help with convenience and understanding. Terms (Such as Lediting and Leditors) will have parentheses alongside them to define them at their first appearance only. 

This document also uses a pageless format to help with organization and cleanliness, getting rid of the pesky problem of a new page being created in a different sentence and large gaps inside sections when a new page is created. It is also recommended to use dark mode when viewing this document. (Sorry Firefox users, I understand your pain,,)

# Lediting (Level Editing) Tools

  ## Leditors (Level Editors)

  [Rained](https://github.com/pkhead/rained/releases)

  One of the best leditors out there, Rained offers a wide functionality, cusomizability, and is very easy to start using. This leditor is possibly the only one still being updated as of 16/4/2025, so it's expected to stay very relible until it gets discontinued. 
  Even after its discontinuation, with the state of it now, it should still remain reliable and very useable.

  [RWE+](https://github.com/timofey260/RWE-Plus/releases) *(DISCONTINUED)*

  RWE+ is a simplistic build upon the offical leditor. While it may have less bugs, it also has much less features than Rained and Henry's leditor. It's not entirely recommended to use, but can be a good start for someone just getting into lediting. 

  Timofey, the leditor's developer, is currently working on an imporvement of RWE+ called RWE# (as of 16/4/2025).

    ## Unrecommended Leditors (Archival)

    This leditor, as the name implies, is the offical Rainworld leditor; this leditor was used during the development of Rainworld.
    Use of this leditor is **HIGHLY** unrecomended as it it filled with bugs (such as the entire leditor crashing upon pressing the ESC key.) 

    This leditor is listed for archival and if people wish to have fun with it.

    This leditor is the official Downpour leditor, and its use is also highly unrecommended due to the same reasons as the official leditor.
